Preparation
Shave the treatment area thoroughly 12–24 hours before your appointment.
Come with clean skin — no creams, oils, deodorants or other products on the treatment area.
Tell your specialist about any new medication, changes in your health, pregnancy, recent tanning or any skin reaction.
Do not remove hair by the root (waxing, sugaring, tweezing, epilator) before the course or between treatments — the hair has to stay in the follicle for the laser to work.
Avoid active tanning and deliberate sun exposure on the area before your treatment, and do not use irritating or active products on it right beforehand.
If you take photosensitising medication or isotretinoin, tell your specialist in advance.
Aftercare
Be gentle with the skin: use a soothing product if you need one, do not rub or scrub the treated area, and keep the skin clean.
For the first 24–48 hours avoid strong heat and extra irritation — very hot baths or showers, sauna, intense friction and harsh products.
Avoid tanning and protect the treated skin from the sun.
Between treatments do not remove hair by the root; shave if you need to.
Safety and suitability
What to expect on the skin
Temporary redness or mild swelling around the hair follicles is possible after the treatment.
Contraindications
We do not perform this treatment during pregnancy; with an active infection, open skin damage or marked irritation in the area; with suspicious or unassessed lesions in the area; after recent active tanning if your specialist considers the treatment unsafe; or while you are taking or using medication or products that contraindicate laser treatment.
Isotretinoin, photosensitising medication, a tendency to keloid scarring, certain medical conditions and other medical factors are assessed individually through the intake form, waiver and our protocol. If there is any doubt, the treatment is postponed.
Before your treatment
Before your treatment, we review medications, recent sun or tanning, pregnancy, active skin conditions or infections, recent procedures, and relevant medical history. Your specialist confirms that the treatment is appropriate for you.
Important: Results vary from person to person. The number of treatments and individual response may vary.
FAQ
Which laser is used, and why are there two prices?
Booking is on the Cynosure Elite+, where Half Arms is $150 per session. We usually recommend the Lutronic Clarity II in the office if the hair is difficult to treat, or if the Elite+ is too painful for you. Before switching we always explain the difference and confirm that Half Arms on the Clarity II is $375 per session.
What technology do the devices use?
Both are dual-wavelength laser platforms: Alexandrite 755 nm and Nd:YAG 1064 nm. Your specialist chooses the wavelength and settings based on your skin type, your hair and the safety of the treatment. The Clarity II uses cryogen cooling; the Elite+ cools the skin with cold air.
What does the result depend on?
On the colour, thickness and density of your hair, your skin type and condition, the growth stage of the hair at each treatment, hormonal factors, how regularly you complete the course, and how well you keep to the intervals and the before/after guidance. Light, grey and red hair can respond significantly less because it contains little melanin.
Will the hair be gone permanently?
You can expect a gradual, long-term reduction in the amount and density of hair in the area; hair usually becomes sparser and finer. Results and the number of treatments are individual, and we do not promise 100% permanent hair removal.
